Global Image Sports are very pleased to announce the launch of a European Residential Academy through our partnership and collaboration with A.C. ChievoVerona in Italy. One of the questions that is frequently asked of our services centres around the possibility of getting access to more training in an elite environment for a sustained period of time. The launch of this project is the first step on a journey towards realising these ambitions and providing fantastic opportunities for our youth partners and their players and families.
The European Residential Academy (ERA) will be for High School aged boys (14-18 year old) and is based on-site at the brand new Bottagisio Sports Facility in Verona. This $10 million project has led to the creation of an outstanding soccer training facility – complete with accommodation, 4 x soccer fields, a strength & conditioning centre, restaurant, classrooms and changing facilities for the Chievo academy playing and coaching staff. The GIS players who will be involved in this programme will have the chance to stay on-site and experience a like-for-like training schedule in synchronisation with the Academy – everything from diet, training sessions, tactical understanding and socio-cultural education. Integration with the Academy players will also be tantamount to the development experience and the chance to take part in friendly games at the weekend will provide the opportunity for the young players to assess their own progress. The group are looked after by a GIS chaperone at all times and also get the chance to visit some famous and historic Italian cities!
From an educational perspective – the periods of stay in Verona enable the players to complete online education and learning so that they can maintain their study with their courses back in North America. Italian language courses are also provided as well as the chance to engage in recreational trips or visits around Italy help to enrich the experience for all involved. This enables students to keep up to date with their credits and have direct 1-to-1 access to an English tutor in North America who can ensure their study programmes are on schedule and built in around the soccer training. The Education is all facilitated by Matter Academy.
The ChievoVerona training methodology has produced a large number of professional players in the top tiers of the Italian soccer system. Chievo’s values work on developing the individual and creating the ability to identify situations, solve problems and make decisions in key moments. This is done through a strong emphasis on technical development but also tactical understanding and physical growth. This has allowed Chievo to remain very competitive amongst other Italian professional teams, despite not necessarily having the immediate resources available. The Bottagisio Facility, high production of player statistics, the much lauded and praised training system and coaching philosophy are a perfect cocktail which provides the young player with a great footballing education but also personal development with long-term benefits.
