Amongst the oldest professional football clubs on the planet, Sheffield Wednesday was originally known simply as The Wednesday. In the late 1880s, the club became a founding member of the Football Alliance and went on to become its first champions. Just over a century later, the club went on to become one of the founding members of the Premier League.
